Why are the streaks on my roof always worse on the north slope?

Northeast Ohio's lake-effect moisture and tree canopy keep the north and west slopes shaded and damp. Gloeocapsa magma feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles in exactly those conditions — which is why one slope looks black and the other looks fine.

Will pressure washing my roof void my GAF or CertainTeed warranty?

Yes. Both manufacturers explicitly require low-pressure (soft wash) chemical cleaning. Our ARMA-aligned method protects your warranty. High pressure strips granules and is the fastest way to shorten a roof's life.

How do you keep the wash off my gutter helmets, skylights, and copper flashing?

Skylights are taped or tarped. Copper, zinc, and patina finishes are pre-rinsed and isolated from drift. Gutter guards are inspected so debris doesn't push into the downspout.

What happens to my landscaping when the solution drains off the roof?

Every foundation bed and turf strip below the eaves is saturated before we start and re-watered when we leave. We rinse continuously during application — not just at the end.

How quickly will the black streaks come back after a wash?

Most Northeast Ohio roofs hold a clean look 2–4 years. Roofs under heavy tree cover may need an annual maintenance treatment — far cheaper than premature replacement.

Roof Washing in Northeast Ohio

Warranty-safe soft wash, executed with the property stewardship your roof deserves.

Those black streaks across your north slope are gloeocapsa magma feeding on the limestone in your shingles — and Northeast Ohio's shaded, humid air is exactly what the colony needs. Elite Guard Power Washing addresses it the way GAF and CertainTeed require: low pressure, the right chemistry, and landscape protection from arrival to walkthrough.

Our Process

1
Roof & property walk
We inspect pitch, flashing, skylights, and landscaping before unrolling a single line — and confirm the plan with you.
2
Landscape saturation
All foundation beds, turf, and copper details below the eaves are pre-soaked and isolated from drift.
3
Method-matched application
Solution dialed to algae load and shingle age. Applied from ridge down at low pressure from ladder or ground-level equipment.
4
Dwell, lift, and feathered rinse
Active dwell time does the work. We feather the rinse so the wash never sheets onto vegetation.
5
Closing walkthrough
We re-water plants, clear gutters of dislodged growth, and walk the property with you before we pack out.
