Self-Storage Facility Gutter Care
At a recent Valley Storage project in Northeast Ohio, the north-side gutters across three buildings were heavily clogged. Building 1 had enough retained dirt and organic material for small trees to begin growing in the channels.

The gutters also held loose nails, caulking tubes, broken mirror pieces, and a utility knife near the downspout paths. Clearing the blockage solved the immediate problem; our assessment identified undersized north-side outlets as the condition most likely to trap new debris and hold water.
The maintenance options we documented
- Upgrade the outlets: Enlarge the north-side downspout connections to improve debris flow, followed by a fall performance check.
- Maintain the current system: Schedule annual gutter cleaning to control recurring buildup and reduce overflow risk.
